If Denmark was 100 people...
We helped Statistics Denmark to put some of the most interesting facts about the Danish people into perspective. The concept of the animation was quite simple, yet powerful: What if Denmark was 100 people?

Background
The mission of Statistics Denmark is to collect, compile and publish statistics about Danish society. It’s a gigantic pile of data. But most importantly they need to communicate and make these statistics relevant and interesting to the citizens. And this is where we come into the picture.
Storyboard
Cruising through the city
Despite the simple concept, we had to construct a realistic town plan and transform it into a storyboard making sure that each fact matched each scenery. We wanted to give the feeling of having a recording drone flying throughout the town in a continuous movement.
Scene 1: Introduction of the 100 people of the town (age facts)
Scene 2: Full view of the town plan with less details and objects (residential form facts)
Scene 5: Zoom in street level with shop, construction workers, movers, business pedestrians (employment facts)
Scene 9: Panning to church square with entering churchgoers (religion facts)
Scene 10: Panning to street running event with finish line, cheering spectators, public fitness facilities (sport facts)
Scene 11: Zoom out slowly with various non-visual facts highlighting people
Style
Isometric did the trick
The initial idea for the concept originated from the “build-your-own” computer games like Simcity, Farmville, etc. Therefore we created an isometric style to keep the illusion of a three-dimensional town that enabled us to have a panning camera. We made sure the isometric style was closely related to the client’s design manual and kept the overall expression joyful and engaging.
Design
One design at a time
The concept of creating a town of 100 people might sound simple; but when it comes to designing, it’s easier said than done. Like building the biggest set of LEGO, we had to construct a full imaginary town of people, cars, trees, animals and whatnot.
